Our Acupuncture Services

Acupuncture originates from China and has been practiced there for thousands of years. Although there are records of acupuncture being used hundreds of years ago in Europe, it was during the second half of the twentieth century it began to spread rapidly in Western Europe, the United States and Canada.

Acupuncture is the insertion of extremely fine sterile needles into specific points on the body to manipulate the flow of energy in the body called Qi (pronounced Chee).  Qi flows through meridians as an invisible current, energizing, nourishing and supporting every cell, tissue, muscle, organ and gland.  In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), we recognize that a balance of qi is essential to health and harmony in the body. When this qi (energy) is blocked or stagnated in any way, the body's lines of communication (meridians) are weakened and disease or pain results. By unblocking this stagnation, the flow of energy is restored and the body can heal itself.

What can I expect at my Acupuncture treatment?

Acupuncture generally involves several weekly treatments. Most courses consist of up to 12 sessions. A visit to an acupuncturist will involve an exam and an assessment of the patient's condition, the insertion of needles, and advice on self-care. Most sessions last about 60 minutes. The patient will be asked to lie down, either face-up, face-down or on his/her side, depending on where the needless are inserted. The acupuncturist should use single-use disposable sterile needles. As each needle is inserted the patient should feel them, but initially without pain. However, when the needle reaches the right depth there should be a deep aching sensation. Sometimes the needles are heated or stimulated with electricity after insertion. Once inserted, the needles will remain there for about twenty minutes.

Acupuncture is recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to be effective in the treatment of many conditions. Here at Cynergy Chiropractic Center, Julie Johnson, L.Ac. is a general practitioner specializing in the following:
